Character & Performance
American Hickory (Carya spp.) stands out for its strength, density, and distinctive natural character. Creamy sapwood, darker heartwood, mineral streaks, and expressive grain give each board its own personality.
T&F Lumber’s solid, unfinished Hickory is crafted for custom homes, cabins, and projects where resilience and rustic elegance go hand in hand. Our careful milling preserves the material’s character while supporting consistent installation.
Exceptional hardness
A Janka hardness of approximately 1,820 lbf makes Hickory one of the hardest commonly used domestic flooring hardwoods.
Bold variation
Creamy and darker tones, mineral streaks, and knots bring a lively, rustic character.
Active households
A useful choice for spaces where resistance to everyday dents matters. Finish selection and maintenance still affect surface wear.
Long-term value
Properly installed and maintained solid Hickory can be refinished and serve for decades.

Is It Right for Your Project?
Hickory is a strong match for cabins, farmhouses, lodges, rustic and transitional interiors, and custom homes where the floor is a visual feature. Natural, stained, low-sheen, and matte finishes are options to discuss with your finisher.
For very uniform color or quiet grain, compare White Oak and Rift & Quartered White Oak. Hickory’s natural contrast is best appreciated through a spread of sample boards.
Design & Finish
Natural, light, medium, dark, and custom stains offer a range of looks. Oil-based, water-based, low-sheen, matte, or hand-rubbed finishes can be selected with your finisher for rustic, modern-rustic, lodge, and transitional interiors.
All flooring is supplied unfinished. Your flooring professional should confirm site conditions, acclimation, installation, finishing, and ongoing care for the chosen species and plank width.
Milling & Quality
How is this flooring milled?
Tongue-and-groove profiles, stress-relief grooves on the back of every board, kiln-dried material, and tight machining tolerances support consistent thickness and fit. Each board is visually graded and inspected throughout production. End-matching is standard on most grades and widths; discuss project-specific exceptions with our team.
What quality standards apply?
Our certified hardwood flooring is produced under the NWFA/NOFMA Mill Quality Assurance Program, with independent inspections of grade, moisture content, and milling consistency.
