Character & Performance
American Walnut (Juglans nigra) is prized for its rich chocolate-brown heartwood, flowing grain, and lighter sapwood contrast. It brings depth and warmth to custom homes and refined architectural interiors.
T&F Lumber manufactures solid, unfinished Walnut flooring with careful selection, kiln-drying, milling, and grading. Supply is limited by material availability; contact us early to discuss the grade, width, and quantity for your project.
Distinctive tones
Chocolate-brown heartwood and lighter sapwood create a naturally varied floor.
Refined appearance
Works well in modern, transitional, traditional, and luxury interiors.
Finish versatility
Supplied unfinished for site-applied clear finishes, oils, stains, or other project-specific treatments.
Consider the use
Walnut is softer than Oak or Hickory. Proper finish selection, care, and realistic wear expectations matter.
Is It Right for Your Project?
Choose Walnut when deep natural color and grain are central to the design. Samples showing a range of heartwood and sapwood will help establish the expected variation.
Availability varies. For a lighter palette, consider White Oak; for greater hardness, compare Hickory. Request current Walnut samples before finalizing your specification.
Design & Finish
Walnut machines cleanly and sands smoothly. Clear finishes and oils highlight its natural chocolate, cocoa, and occasional purplish tones; deeper stains can suit traditional interiors. Confirm the expected heartwood and sapwood range with samples.
All flooring is supplied unfinished. Your flooring professional should confirm site conditions, acclimation, installation, finishing, and ongoing care for the chosen species and plank width.
Milling & Quality
How is this flooring milled?
Tongue-and-groove profiles, stress-relief grooves on the back of every board, kiln-dried material, and tight machining tolerances support consistent thickness and fit. Each board is visually graded and inspected throughout production. End-matching is standard on most grades and widths; discuss project-specific exceptions with our team.
What quality standards apply?
Our certified hardwood flooring is produced under the NWFA/NOFMA Mill Quality Assurance Program, with independent inspections of grade, moisture content, and milling consistency.
